FZ: Thank you... Brian, I could use a little bit more monitor...
Hello, hello...
From: Charles Ulrich <culrich@istar.ca>
It sounds like he's talking to the soundman. Perhaps the same guy as "Brian Brian" in "Ruthie Ruthie"/"Babbette" on YCDTOSA 1.
From: Bill Lantz <lantz@primenet.com>
Brain Desper (spelling could be wrong) was Frank's sound man for most of 73 and part of 74.

She's just like a Penguin in Bondage, boy

Way over on the wet side
Of the bed
(
Knirps for moisture)
From: "Johan Wikberg" <wikberg@mbox301.swipnet.se>
Knirps is a German UMBRELLA manufacturer. Proof can be found at http://www.knirps.de/
From: KrKier@rocco.wupper.de (Kristian Kier)
Once again: Knirps is a brand name of a german umbrella. It can be lay together so it becomes very small and comfortable. A "Knirps" is also in the german colloquial language the description of a small boy or a small person. Translated it would be a "shortie" or a "pygmy"

Shake up the pale-dry Ginger ale
Tremblin' like a Penguin
When the battery fail
  For what purpose I'm wondering.
From: Michael Pierry <stilliving@home.com>
  Hint: NOT to drink!
From: "JWB" <mudshark@ptdprolog.net>
They are savory adjectives often attached to Ginger Ale Soda. The most popular brand in North America is Canada Dry (TM), which boasts that it is pale and dry on the label.

Lord, you must be havin' her jumpin'

A facial tissue. This is a brand name.
From: stucohomes@aol.com (StucoHomes)
Not napkins, but facial tissue (what you use to blow your nose with).

In the frostbite nite
With her flaps gone white
Shriekin' as she spot the
hoop across the room
Everytime she sees the hoop
  Opinion #1
From: David F Lynch (dflync01@homer.louisville.edu)
It was based on a stage routine the Flo & Eddie band used to do where they'd shoot a penguin through a flaming hoop.
  Opinion #2
From: evilbob@tbag.tscs.com
This is a description of a popular activity from the Garrick Theater days. They had an inflatable penguin (which was sometimes referred to as "Carl Zappa" - a reference which still is a mystery to me) which they would throw through a flaming hoop made out of Kleenex wrapped around a coathanger.
Howard Kaylan's opinion (via Doug Grose (http://theturtles.com/), thanks Doug)
  Here is what Howard said:
"WELL, IT IS AND IT ISN'T. IT IS TRUE THAT AS PART OF THE FABULOUS SANZINZI BROTHERS' ROUTINES WE WOULD TOSS OUR LITTLE BROTHER, EMIL., WHO DID HAPPEN TO BE A STUFFED PENGUIN, THROUGH A HOOP OF FIRE (IE, COAT HANGERS WRAPPED WITH KLEENEX) WITH DRAMATIC RESULTS, BUT I THINK THAT FRANK WAS DOING PENGUINS IN BONDAGE FOR YEARS BEFORE THAT."
  Any additional comments, folks?
From: naurin@mbox300.swopnet.se (Jon Naurin)
"Well folks, the last time we were here, at the lovely and piquant Harrisburg Farm Show, an event occured in the dressing room which formed part of the basis for this song that we're gonna do for you now. How many of you saw that last concert when we were here before? Do you remember the penguin going through the flaming hoop? You do? Well wonderful, because...four years later this is what happened to the penguin: he's been immortalized, and the name of this song is 'Penguin In Bondage'."
- FZ, live 1974
